The developer, Hines,  has unromantic for planning permission for 1,269 apartments and ½ million square feet of retail space. Another 7,500 homes are planned as part of this new town but it will be the urban diamond and tracery of the town centre that will pinpoint the weft of Cherrywood. At first glance, I can see that a lot of the roads and parking are underground, leaving a lot of pedestrian space which is welcome. I’ll write increasingly when I’ve had a endangerment to study the planning files in detail. If permission is granted, the developer says that he plans to uncork construction by June 2018 and finish by June 2021. Other information from the developer: Electric Car Recharging Points – 150 (Phase 1) Pedestrian pathways, tracks and greenways – 37 km Dedicated Cycle Lanes – 25 km Bicycle Spaces – 2,600 All 4 Cherrywood LUAS platforms will be 90 metres long in vaticination of any future extension of tram lengths or line upgrade to Metro For now – here are some photo-montages of the planned town centre. Write in the comments to tell me your first impressions and any questions you have. Here is a map to help you get your bearings. The yellow line is the path of the Luas. The undecorous whirligig to the right is the Spar convenience shop. Very similar to the Beacon Quater in Sandyford. No real character, no public art or other monuments to enliven the streets. Very disappointing. Padraic MurraySeptember 27, 2017 at 6:28 pmPermalink Ossian, you and the Greens are to be conmmended for your work on this project whilst not perfect will be the greenest in Ireland. Well done!! OssianPost authorSeptember 28, 2017 at 7:16 amPermalink Thanks Padraic but this town plan didn’t come from me. The masterplan was devised by the steering and tried by An Bord Pleanala long surpassing my time. Now we are seeing the first designs from architects. Finbarr GeaneySeptember 28, 2017 at 8:55 pmPermalink Ossian, The public footpath areas squint like extensions of the apartments. There doesn’t seem to be a presentment between public and private space. Without a well-spoken sense that the public spaces are fully public and for societal use Cherrywood is going to lack soul – like an outdoor Dundrum shopping center. Fin. OssianPost authorSeptember 28, 2017 at 10:07 pmPermalink Hi Finbarr I think they are blurring the line between public and private space on purpose as that is in malleate at the moment. I think it’s worth looking at the zone virtually the Sandyford industrial manor and the Leopardstown park zone to see what worked and what failed. There was meant to be a wide diagonal pedestrian street at Rockbrook. The minutiae is incomplete there but I will go up and get some photos. Any residential zone should have soul and weft and it’s nonflexible to get those when everything is planned in advance. Carol MurrayOctober 1, 2017 at 4:04 pmPermalink Where is the hotel going to be? OssianPost authorOctober 1, 2017 at 6:26 pmPermalink Hi Carol I haven’t heard well-nigh a hotel yet but I’ll trammels the plans. Ossian Carol MurrayOctober 1, 2017 at 7:59 pmPermalink Thank you. We went to the unshut day and were told there was a 4 star shop hotel going in virtually the town centre. We were shown it on the model but I don’t see anything mentioned well-nigh it on the website.
