The request is due to be decided by September) An Bórd Pleanála has today tried ALDI’s plan to convert the White and Delahunty Motors on Pearse Street to a unbelieve supermarket with car park. This makes it unlikely that the Lidl planned for the former Deer Hunter site at the Sallynoggin roundabout will be approved. ALDI had gained clearance for their new supermarket from Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown Council. However, a group of their competitors including Tesco and Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre had challenged the visualization by well-flavored to An Bórd Pleanála. Inspector’s Report The planning inspector’s report describes why he believes that the supermarket should be approved.  Here is a summary of his reasons: There is no supermarket in tropical walking distance. Sallynoggin is designated as a neighbourhood centre. The 2012 Retail Planning Guidelines do not provide for unbelieve supermarkets – only for small supermarkets in Neighbourhood Centres but the 2010 Dun Laoghaire CountyMinutiaePlan does permit unbelieve supermarkets for Neighbourhood Centres. The supermarket is “relatively modest” and will not materially impact on the major town centre of Dun Laoghaire. The unbelieve supermarket will offer a variegated range of goods compared to the existing shops at Church Place, Sallynoggin Road and the Centra on the roundabout. At present people in the Sallynoggin zone must travel outside the zone to do a weekly shop. Although the LocalZonePlan for Sallynoggin is not complete, it will not transpiration the zoning objective for the site. The box-building style fits in with its neighbours. The full inspector’s report is here: ALDI Inspector’s report Planning Conditions The planning workbench decided to grant permission with very few conditions. ALDI will have to provide charging spaces for electric vehicles and make shortcuts so that it is easier for pedestrians to move between neighbouring shops. The full list of conditions is here:  Sallynoggin ALDI planning conditions What now for Lidl at the roundabout? Before this visualization to legitimatize ALDI was made, the steering had been deciding on whether to legitimatize a Lidl supermarket for the former Deer Hunter site at the roundabout. This was to be part of a minutiae with a Nursing Home and a clinic. I wrote well-nigh this previously. I believe that it is now unlikely that the Lidl will be tried as the ALDI will be seen as providing a sufficient supermarket in short walking loftiness of many houses in Sallynoggin and Glenageary. The developer of the Deer Hunter site may now wish to redesign the plans to offer housing or office space. There have been four plans for this site once and it is well-nigh time that it was ripened in some way. Many people I spoke to in Sallynoggin were positive well-nigh having a new ALDI in their area.   ALDI finally tried for Sallynoggin – Lidl now unlikely Ossian April 21, 2015July 16, 2015 Uncategorized 5 Comments ← Nursing Home proposed for the Deerhunter site on Sallynoggin Roundabout Dublin Bus proposes route changes for Dún Laoghaire, Sallynoggin and Loughlinstown → 5 thoughts on “ALDI finally tried for Sallynoggin – Lidl now unlikely” billAugust 21, 2015 at 9:43 pmPermalink Fantastic news. The nearest Aldi’s are either in Bray or Sandyford. Great to have a variegated shopping option other than the 2 Lidl’s on Pottery Rd and Bakers corner. Really looking forward to it! Joan HalpinNovember 1, 2015 at 9:57 amPermalink Yes I’m glad Aldi opening locally. I usually shop in Lidl but this Aldi meat is better! What are the plans for parking and will it be free? OssianPost authorNovember 10, 2015 at 9:02 amPermalink ALDI is under construction now. It should be unshut in a few months.
